More Lord of the Rings Remasters Are in the Works Following War in the North Re-Release, Confirms Aspyr

IGN · 4 hours ago

Aspyr has confirmed that further re-releases of classic Lord of the Rings games are on the way, following its surprise "shadow drop" of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition on modern platforms. The confirmation came via a press release stating that fans "can look forward to even more classic releases by Aspyr from the beloved franchise in the future," marking War in the North as merely the first of Aspyr's planned Lord of the Rings output.

No specific titles have been announced, though speculation points to possible Switch 2 ports of Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War, given Aspyr's history with Nintendo platforms, as well as demand for early-2000s EA-published titles such as The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, The Lord of the Rings: Conquest and the Battle for Middle-earth strategy series. It remains unclear whether licensing complications, given Warner Bros. holds the franchise rights while EA published those older games, could affect their availability, and IGN says it has asked Aspyr for clarification.
