Mother accused of murdering her newborn baby ‘who was stabbed 15 times and dumped on washing machine’ appears in court alongside three other Slovakian nationals

Four Slovakian nationals have appeared at Sheffield Crown Court charged with murdering newborn Maria Skopova, who died on the day she was born. The case also includes allegations of causing or allowing a child’s death and cleaning the scene to obstruct justice; all charges remain allegations.

Maria was found in a towel inside a blue bag at a property in Wincobank on 30 August, and a post-mortem recorded 33 wounds. Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath Jr, 19, his father Peter Horvath Sr, 38, and his mother Nina Horvathova, 37, have entered no pleas. A 15-year-old girl is separately charged with perverting the course of justice; a six-to-seven-week trial is provisionally set to begin on 12 April.
