Atlanta conference attendee charged with murder of hotel guest
Melissa Ruth Tibbetts, a 45-year-old mother attending a work conference in Atlanta, was found dead in her hotel room on 14 October. Emmanuel Poindexter, 39, has been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated battery, nearly three weeks after police identified him as a suspect.
Tibbetts worked for ACM Chemistries and was reported missing after she failed to attend a meeting the day after her death. Investigators said room service had been ordered for two and found multiple drink containers; hotel surveillance coverage was limited. Arrest warrants allege Poindexter struck her repeatedly, breaking her hyoid bone. He was found receiving treatment for a self-inflicted knife wound and was booked into jail on 2 November; his relationship with Tibbetts is unclear.
