Movie Theater Will Be Hypnotizing Viewers to Relive Films for the First Time
Dutch cinema chain Pathé plans to hypnotise 30 film fans before screenings, in an experiment designed to let them experience familiar films as if for the first time. The event matters as an unusual attempt to draw audiences back to cinemas by offering a novel way to revisit favourite stories.
Called Pathé REWIND, it is due to take place on 9 November at a cinema in The Hague, with hypnotherapist Victor Kraemer leading the session. Participants will watch films including The Matrix, Se7en, La La Land and Interstellar; Pathé says the results are unknown and makes no promises that hypnosis will erase their memories.
In short
- Pathé will test whether hypnosis can make familiar films feel new.
- Thirty participants are signed up for the Hague event.
- The cinema chain says the experiment’s results are uncertain.
