A musician, his pregnant wife, their three-year-old daughter and the family's nanny were found shot dead inside a home near Mexico City, in a killing authorities say was carried out by someone who exploited the victims' trust to gain entry. The victim was identified as Jonathan Meléndez, a keyboardist with the Mexican band Camilo Séptimo, whose bandmates paid tribute to him on Instagram, calling him "Honas" and praising his life and music.

The State of Mexico Prosecutor's Office said the four victims, including a 21-year-old nanny, were discovered alongside an unharmed six-year-old boy in Atizapán de Zaragoza on Tuesday 1 September, with the killings believed to have taken place between 5.30pm and 7.40pm. Two of the victims had been bound, and most had been shot in the head, while the fourth was shot in the back. Two men, Diego Sebastián "N" and Gerardo "N", have been arrested, with one described as an "associate" of the musician; officials, including Mexico's security secretary Omar García Harfuch, said no motive has been publicly disclosed but stressed a swift, coordinated response by authorities.
