Muslim Votes Matter softens anti-Labor stance ahead of Victorian election in bid to defeat One Nation in at-risk seats
Muslim Votes Matter (MVM) will soften its anti-Labor approach at Victoria’s 28 November election, urging voters to put Labor ahead of One Nation in lower house seats. The group says it wants to limit One Nation’s influence, particularly where it believes the party could gain ground or shape Coalition policy.
This marks a change from MVM’s 2025 federal election campaign, when it backed Greens and independents to punish Labor over Gaza. MVM spokesperson Ghaith Krayem said the group would still rank independents and minor parties above Labor on its how-to-vote cards, but would preference Labor over the Liberals where preferences might benefit One Nation. Volunteers will campaign in Greenvale, Narre Warren South and Tarneit; Labor holds those seats by margins of 7.1%, 8.3% and 12.3% respectively.
In short
- MVM will put Labor ahead of One Nation in Victorian lower house seats.
- Volunteers will target Greenvale, Narre Warren South and Tarneit.
- The group still plans to rank independents and minor parties above Labor.
