NBC’s “Today” show is reportedly increasing security at its Studio 1A set in New York after an intruder confronted co-host Craig Melvin in a vestibule. The incident has prompted a review of on-set safety arrangements and highlights concerns about protecting presenters and staff at high-profile live television venues.

According to the report, the intruder allegedly used a racial slur while accosting Melvin and was arrested shortly afterwards. The person is facing hate crime charges, while the programme said it was co-operating with the NYPD’s investigation and that the individual had entered an unauthorised area.
