Netflix has officially confirmed a reunion film for The Inbetweeners, with production starting today and original stars Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas returning to their roles. The move ends months of speculation about a revival of the coming-of-age sitcom, which followed teenagers Will McKenzie, Simon Cooper, Neil Sutherland and Jay Cartwright through school life in suburban Britain and became a major hit for Channel 4 between 2008 and 2010, later spawning two record-breaking films.

Netflix released a first-look clip showing the cast getting into Simon's battered yellow Fiat Cinquecento, though no plot details have been revealed. Creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris have returned to write and direct, producing alongside Claire Jones, Banijay's Patrick Holland and Fudge Park Production's Mark Lesbirel, with several others serving as executive producers. The original series and its two Film4-backed films (2011 and 2014) both broke UK box office records for comedies, and talk of a comeback first surfaced last October when Banijay UK's Holland said the team was "plotting more adventures" under a long-standing deal.
