Netflix will submit “Too Much To Ask”, from Brad Bird’s animated film “Ray Gunn”, for consideration in the Oscars’ original song category. Written and produced by two-time Grammy winner Kimbra and performed in the film by Scarlett Johansson, the song is intended to express Venus Nova’s desire for authenticity and emotional freedom.

The song was recorded at Abbey Road Studios with the London Symphony Orchestra, drawing on influences including Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin and “Twin Peaks”. Kimbra also wrote two other songs for the film, including the deliberately infectious pop track “Innocent”, while Johansson voices Venus alongside Sam Rockwell and Tom Waits.
