Netflix’s Iconic ’80s Sitcom Reboot Gets Official First Look
Netflix has released the first official images from its reboot of the classic 1980s sitcom *A Different World*, confirming a premiere date of 24 September. The revival returns to the fictional Hillman College, a historically Black institution, more than 30 years after the original series ended, and marks the streamer's latest attempt to revive a beloved franchise following efforts such as *Arrested Development* and *Fuller House*.
The new series centres on Deborah Wayne, played by Maleah Joi Moon, the daughter of original characters Whitley and Dwayne Wayne, who are once again played by Jasmine Guy and Kareem Hardison. Cree Summer and Darryl M. Bell also reprise their roles as Freddie Brooks and Ron Johnson respectively. The first-look images introduce a fresh ensemble of Hillman students, including athlete Shaquille Johnson (Cornell Young IV), who appears to form a new central pairing with Deborah, alongside Rashida Duvall (Alijah Kai), Amir Rodale (Jordan Aaron Hall), Hazel Henry (Kennedi Reece) and Kojo Achebe (Chibuikem Uche), with some shots also revisiting the original cast beyond campus life.
