The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office is seeking to reduce Kemen Taylor II’s life sentence for his role in the 2011 killing of 13-year-old Ray’Jon Gomez. Prosecutors argue that Taylor, who acted as the getaway driver, received an excessively harsh sentence and that his conduct and rehabilitation warrant reconsideration.

Taylor was convicted in 2014 of nine felonies, including aiding and abetting first-degree premeditated murder and attempted murder. The proposed adjustment would reduce his sentence to 26 years, potentially allowing probationary release in 2030; the request remains before a judge, while Gomez’s father has strongly opposed it and criticised the process as focused on the offender rather than the victim.
