New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson has been announced as one of the first hosts for the new season of "Saturday Night Live", continuing a long tradition of athletes fronting the sketch comedy show. He will open the season on 26 September, with musical guest Katseye also confirmed for the episode.

Athletes who have hosted SNL in the past have had mixed success, ranging from Peyton Manning's widely praised turn to more stilted performances from other sportspeople, though the show has often built sketches around less confident actors to compensate. Brunson's prior appearances with WWE have led to speculation that he could perform well in the hosting role when the show returns to its regular home at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
