Coventry City beat Plymouth Argyle to reach the Carabao Cup third round, despite being made to work hard after an early two-goal advantage was cancelled out. The result gave Frank Lampard’s side their first win of the season, an important lift as they focus on Premier League survival.
Taiwo Awoniyi scored his first Coventry goal and Jack Rudoni added another inside four minutes and six seconds. Plymouth levelled through Xavier Amaechi, but substitute Ephron Mason-Clark restored Coventry’s lead before Victor Torp converted a penalty to seal a 4-2 win.
