The Carabao Cup is an annual knockout competition for English football clubs, with teams from the Premier League and lower divisions taking part. A win sends a club through to the next round; defeat means it is out.
Coventry City and Plymouth Argyle play in different divisions, and cup ties can give clubs a chance to face opponents they do not meet in league matches. Coventry are also working to stay in the Premier League, so the competition sits alongside their campaign to secure their place there.
