An NHS vascular surgeon, Dr Muhammad Abdelmoez Abdelmoghny Khalil, has been suspended for nine months after a medical tribunal found his fitness to practise impaired over a series of anti-Semitic social media posts. The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) ruling follows a complaint by UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI), which uncovered posts including an image of a crossed-out Israeli flag captioned "Death to Israel" and messages telling Jews to "shove your Torah" and other religious texts "up your stinky a**". UKLFI said the material raised serious concerns about whether Jewish or Israeli patients could feel safe in his care, and welcomed the tribunal's decision as a signal that hateful conduct by healthcare professionals would be taken seriously.

Dr Khalil, who qualified from Cairo University in 2001 and has worked at Guy's and St Thomas', UCLH, the Royal Free and Kent and Canterbury Hospital, was based at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust when the complaint was lodged. His posts also denied that Hamas carried out the 7 October 2023 attacks, blaming Israeli and Western "propaganda" instead, and reproduced a quote attributed to former Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser calling for Israel's "complete eradication". The MPTS hearing concluded in Manchester on 9 September, and the suspension takes effect on 13 October unless Dr Khalil appeals within 28 days; the General Medical Council has confirmed the suspension.
