Manchester United have appointed Eva Olid as their new women's head coach on a two-year deal, with the option of a further year, replacing Marc Skinner who departed by mutual consent just a month before the new WSL season begins. The 40-year-old Spaniard arrives from Scottish side Hearts, whom she led from the bottom of the table to their first-ever Scottish Women's Premier League title, despite having no previous WSL experience. United reportedly prioritised a coach with a strong record of developing young players when searching for Skinner's successor.

Olid spent five years transforming Hearts, instilling an attacking 3-4-3 approach in which the goalkeeper played as an auxiliary defender, and the side finished last season as the division's top scorers with 85 goals. She also guided Hearts to their first domestic cup final and developed young talent such as the Husband twins, who debuted aged 15. United begin their WSL campaign away to London City Lionesses on 4 September, and the club's director of women's football, Matt Johnson, said Olid's focus on nurturing homegrown players made her the right fit for the role.
