Nurse suspended after claiming £6,940 in NHS sick pay while working elsewhere

Daily Mail ·

Nurse Williams Ibi has been suspended for six months after claiming nearly £7,000 in NHS sick pay while working shifts for a private healthcare provider. The case concerns conduct during the COVID-19 pandemic, when his NHS trust was under extreme pressure and colleagues or agency staff had to cover his missed shifts.

Ibi reported four periods of absence from University Hospitals of North Midlands between April 2020 and February 2021, but worked 119 shifts elsewhere while receiving £6,940 in sick pay. During one period, he worked 2,571 hours for the private provider, averaging 44 hours a week. He was dismissed after an investigation and received a conditional police caution for fraud by false representation in June 2022; the Nursing and Midwifery Council will review his case after the suspension.
