Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang summoned by Congress over Chinese espionage concerns
Three Republican House committee chairs have asked Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang to attend a closed-door congressional briefing on 18 November. They want to question him about US intelligence concerns that he was targeted by a Chinese spying operation, and about safeguards protecting sensitive technology and information.
The concerns centre on Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore-based cloud company Megaspeed, which has bought billions of dollars’ worth of Nvidia chips. Nvidia says its customer meetings involve ordinary business information and that its own inspections found no evidence of chips being diverted to China; the company has not said whether Huang will attend. Megaspeed has previously faced US scrutiny over possible chip smuggling, while a Supermicro co-founder was charged earlier this year with smuggling Nvidia chips to China and has pleaded not guilty.
