A New York parolee accused of killing two people during a 48-hour robbery spree was arrested on Friday morning after an FBI-backed manhunt, the NYPD said. Jesus Acosta, 31, had been sought following separate fatal shootings at a Bronx deli and a Brooklyn takeaway, both linked to attempted robberies, prompting an FBI reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to his capture. The case has drawn scrutiny of the parole system, as Acosta had reportedly amassed 13 prior arrests before his release.

The first attack took place in the early hours of Tuesday at 149 Grill & Deli in the Bronx, where a 33-year-old man, later identified as Tayvon Shuler, was shot multiple times and died after cash was taken from the till. The second occurred the previous Sunday at American Best Wings & Pizza in Brownsville, Brooklyn, killing 44-year-old restaurant worker MD Yousuf and wounding a 39-year-old man. Acosta had been on parole since April after serving roughly ten years for assault and illegal weapon possession, and a bodega trade group criticised authorities over his release, calling for tougher gun-possession sentencing.
