Octopath Traveler 1 & 2 Announced For Switch 2 With Improved Performance And Visuals
Square Enix has announced Switch 2 versions of Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II, bringing both role-playing games to Nintendo’s newer console with enhanced visuals and performance. The games are already available in Japan, with a western release set for 1 October 2026. The announcement matters because it offers what may become the best Nintendo version for new players, but it is likely to frustrate existing owners who must buy the games again to access the upgraded editions.
Each title will be sold separately in physical and digital form for £49.99 / $59.99, while a digital bundle will cost £59.99 / $74.99. Square Enix has confirmed there will be no upgrade option from the original Switch versions and that save data cannot be transferred between Switch and Switch 2 editions. The company has not yet detailed exactly how performance and visuals have improved, though the article suggests higher resolution and smoother frame rates are the most likely changes.
