BBC World ·

A man died and several other people were injured after a passenger was reportedly ejected from a rollercoaster at Six Flags Over Georgia near Atlanta. Police are investigating what happened, while the park and Georgia’s amusement safety regulator are reviewing the incident.

Police identified the man as Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, and said preliminary witness and employee accounts indicate he struck other riders before falling beneath the attraction. The incident happened shortly before 16:00 local time on Monday; the ride involved has not been confirmed, although the Goliath was seen stopped in aerial footage. Six Flags temporarily closed nine rides across the US and Canada as a precaution. Goliath opened in 2006 and reaches speeds of up to 70mph.
