Apple has introduced iPhone Handoff with iOS 27, a new feature that allows users to employ a single phone number across two iPhones simultaneously without requiring separate carrier accounts. The functionality is designed for simplicity—users merely unlock the iPhone they wish to use, and calls, messages, and most app features operate seamlessly on both devices using the same number. This addresses a practical need for those who regularly switch between multiple iPhones.

The feature requires both devices to run iOS 27 or later, connect to the same Wi-Fi network, and be signed into the same Apple Account. Currently, carrier support is limited, with only T-Mobile in the United States and Telekom in Germany confirming compatibility; T-Mobile charges an additional $5 monthly fee. Notable limitations include incompatibility with paired Apple Watches and certain wallet items such as identification documents. The feature may prove useful for individuals transitioning between old and new iPhones, those travelling with secondary devices, or professionals managing separate work and personal phones.
