Capcom has announced that Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold more than one million copies within its first day of release, marking a strong revival for a franchise that had lain dormant for over two decades. The milestone is significant as it suggests renewed commercial appetite for the series and continues Capcom's recent run of successfully modernising its classic titles for new audiences.

The game launched on 4th September across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2, pushing the Onimusha series' lifetime sales past 10 million copies. PC appears to have been a particularly strong platform, with the title peaking at 85,081 concurrent players on Steam and ranking among the platform's current best-sellers, though Capcom has not broken down sales by platform. For context, Capcom's other recent releases have also performed well, with new IP Pragmata reaching one million sales in two days and Resident Evil Requiem shifting five million units within a week; Way of the Sword's release date had also been brought forward from its original 25th September slot.
