Cygames has confirmed that Project Awakening, its open-world action RPG, remains in active development eight years after a striking teaser trailer dazzled fans at PlayStation's 2018 LineUp Tour. The update matters because the game — first announced in 2016 — has gone years without a release window, leaving many to assume it had quietly been shelved.

Speaking to Famitsu, Cygames president Koichi Watanabe said the title is "steadily progressing" and that the team is working with "a real sense of confidence that things are coming together". He noted that the overall direction is largely unchanged, with ongoing polishing and new elements added over time. The game was last mentioned in a similar 2024 business update, and Famitsu was reportedly shown new footage, hinting that a fresh public showing could come relatively soon. Little else is known beyond its open-world action RPG genre.
