OpenAI introduced Dots, hosted AI agents with colourful, character-like designs, at its Dev Day event in San Francisco. Behind the friendly appearance, each Dot runs persistently on a cloud computer, uses OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra model and connected software tools, and can retain context while working on tasks around the clock. The launch presents agents as everyday helpers, even as concerns about AI autonomy and risk continue.

OpenAI says Dots are included in eligible Pro and Business Premium plans, and conversations with them do not count towards ChatGPT usage limits; tasks they start in Codex or ChatGPT Work do. The plans include an allowance for more intensive work, with generous limits during the first month, and OpenAI says paid options to add Dots or expand their capacity may follow. The event also featured subscription changes: the $200-a-month Pro plan returns with 10 times Plus usage, down from 20 times, while a new $500 tier offers 25 times usage and faster token generation; GPT-6.1 Sol was announced at one-fifth the price of Astra.
