Opera’s lightweight Air browser is back, unbothered, moisturized, in its lane

Engadget ·

Opera has relaunched its free Air browser with features intended to encourage focused, mindful browsing. The update matters because it adds ways to reduce distractions and build short breaks into everyday web use.

Users can choose soundtracks across four moods: Focus, Relax, Work and Ambience, schedule breathing exercises and follow neck stretches. The streamlined browser also offers new wallpapers, automatic dark mode, an ad blocker and a free VPN; its ChatGPT sidebar is off by default. Air is available for Windows and macOS and builds on Opera’s 2025 launch.

Opera is a web browser, the software people use to visit websites. Opera is one of several companies competing to make browsers, and its Air browser is a lighter version designed around a calmer, more focused browsing experience.

Air includes tools such as background sound, reminders to pause for breathing exercises and guided neck stretches. It also has an ad blocker and a free VPN, which routes internet traffic through another server; these features sit alongside familiar browser tools such as dark mode.

The browser is available for Windows and macOS. Its design reflects a wider debate about how software can help people manage interruptions and time spent online, while still giving them access to the web.
