‘Outer Banks’ Prequel Coming Together At Netflix As Hit YA Series Wraps Five-Season Run

Deadline · 2 hours ago

Netflix's teen drama Outer Banks is set to expand with a prequel series, tentatively called Kildare, exploring the origins of the class divide between the wealthy "Kooks" and working-class "Pogues" on the show's fictional island. Creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate and Shannon Burke are actively writing the script, with the project having recently entered formal development at Netflix and gained momentum as the flagship series concludes its five-season run.

The prequel will be set 20 years before the events of the original show, focusing on the parents' generation and featuring some familiar character surnames alongside new figures. The idea had reportedly been discussed by the creators for a couple of years before coming together, and Josh Pate has framed the story as particularly timely, describing it as an examination of how a community split into haves and have-nots. Outer Banks' final season, Season 5, is due to premiere on Netflix on 20 August 2026.
