Paloma Faith was pictured wearing a “Free Marwan” shirt while discussing Ed Sheeran’s decision to remove rapper Macklemore from his tour. She criticised Sheeran’s claim that his concerts should remain apolitical, arguing that children should be exposed to political issues and referencing the situation in Gaza and the West Bank.

The shirt supports Marwan Barghouti, a Palestinian politician convicted by an Israeli court in 2004 of killing four Israeli civilians and a Greek monk, attempted murder and membership of a proscribed organisation; Barghouti denies involvement, and some legal experts have questioned the trial. Macklemore was removed after pro-Palestinian speeches, while Sheeran denied taking a public political position; the dispute also led Irish station Classic Hits Radio to stop playing his music temporarily, and renewed scrutiny of a controversial costume Macklemore wore in 2014.
