Paramount to Reopen Bay Theater in Pacific Palisades as L.A.’s Cinema Scene Roars Back

The Hollywood Reporter ·

Paramount Pictures and developer Rick Caruso plan to reopen the Bay Theater in Pacific Palisades later this year, after it closed when wildfires devastated the area last year. The move adds a neighbourhood cinema to Los Angeles’ wider revival of movie theatres and is intended to give the community a place to gather as local businesses recover.

The theatre, formerly leased by Netflix, will be operated by luxury dine-in chain The Lot. It is expected to show new releases from all studios and classic films, alongside events and immersive experiences; the plans also form part of efforts to support commercial renewal at Palisades Village, which reopened this summer. Other Los Angeles cinema projects include the planned restoration of the Cinerama Dome, Amazon’s lease of the Culver Theatre and Netflix’s purchase of the Egyptian.

The Bay Theater is a neighbourhood cinema in Pacific Palisades, a coastal area of Los Angeles. It was previously leased by Netflix and closed after wildfires caused widespread damage to the community last year.

Paramount Pictures, a major film studio, and developer Rick Caruso plan to reopen it, with luxury cinema chain The Lot running the venue. The plans sit alongside the reopening of nearby Palisades Village, a shopping and business centre, as local businesses work to recover.

The cinema is part of a wider return of movie theatres across Los Angeles, including projects involving the Cinerama Dome, Culver Theatre and Egyptian Theatre. Its reopening would add a local gathering place as well as a venue for films and events.
