PHILIP ANSELMO On KING DIAMOND’s Guest Appearance On New DOWN Album ‘Volume V’: ‘He Really Did Such An Amazing Job’
Down are set to release “Volume V” on 20 November, their first studio album in 12 years, featuring King Diamond on the track “Merciful Fate”. Philip Anselmo said the band welcomed the idea after the song’s title came to him during demos, and praised King’s finished performance.
Anselmo said he sent King a demo and that the band was impressed when his vocals arrived; King’s wife, Liv Zita, also contributed harmonies. Pepper Keenan described the vocal exchange as potentially one of heavy metal’s best moments in 15 or 20 years. Anselmo said age and experience had brought him greater clarity about Down’s sound, while touring is not a major personal priority.
