Pixar has announced “Ghost Market”, an original supernatural animated film scheduled for release in spring 2028. Revealed by chief content officer Pete Docter at Disney’s D23 convention, it follows Kyle, a teenage Chicago content creator who discovers a hidden Hawaiian market linking the living and the dead during a family holiday.
The film is inspired by Asian myths involving places where the living and dead interact, and is reported to be directed by Pixar veteran Trevor Jimenez, whose short “Weekends” was Oscar-nominated. It was originally conceived as a streaming series before being expanded into a feature film; its release would give Pixar two films in 2028 alongside “The Incredibles 3”.

Pixar is the animation studio behind films including Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Inside Out. It is owned by Disney and releases films for cinemas as well as, at times, Disney’s streaming service.
Ghost Market is an original story rather than a sequel to an existing Pixar film. It centres on a teenager from Chicago who, while on a family trip to Hawaii, finds a hidden place linked to both living people and the dead.
The film draws on Asian traditions and stories about boundaries between the living and the dead. Trevor Jimenez, who made the Oscar-nominated animated short Weekends, is reported to be directing it.
