Pokémon Go marked its 10th anniversary with a special livestream broadcast from a pop-up event in Times Square, New York, staged by developer Scopely Explore (formerly Niantic, which rebranded that week). The centrepiece was a large-scale recreation of the giant Mewtwo battle from the game's original 2016 trailer, with Times Square's screens plunged into darkness before playing that first trailer and then displaying Mewtwo as a raid boss. While the event was light on announcements about the game's future, it demonstrated that Pokémon Go can still generate a significant real-world spectacle a decade on.

More than 1,000 trainers took part in a real-time battle against Mewtwo, which Mega Evolved into the tougher Mega Mewtwo Y, with the boss and participants' avatars appearing across the location's screens; after it was caught in a Master Ball, the process repeated so players could secure a second, guaranteed perfect-IV "hundo" Mewtwo. The broadcast, hosted by Sydnee Goodman alongside Pokémon YouTubers such as Mystic7, was timed to lead into the weekend's Go Fest Global event and featured the new "Unity Raid" in-person mechanic (which requires attendees to raise their phones), plus in-game spawns and raids rotating through past years. A Professor Willow-costumed Pikachu plush was also confirmed for the Pokémon Center store, with a matching in-game costumed Pikachu due in an upcoming event.
