Developed over time first seen 7 hours ago
An earthquake reported at a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 struck Baja California, Mexico, at about 10.27am local time on Tuesday 3 November. The US Geological Survey placed its epicentre near Delta, south of the US border, at a depth of about 16 kilometres. Although the quake originated in Mexico, people across parts of Southern California and Arizona reported feeling it. Residents of San Diego, Chula Vista and San Ysidro were among those who submitted reports to the USGS.
The quake followed several smaller tremors near the epicentre. The Southern California Seismic Network recorded 17 earthquakes in the area over the preceding three days, including a magnitude 3.6 event earlier on Tuesday. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage. Further tremors are possible, and the preliminary magnitude and other measurements may be revised as seismologists review the data.
