Progressive Democrats won another closely watched Senate primary, adding pressure on Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and highlighting the party’s continuing dispute between its left wing and establishment figures. However, the most prominent contest between progressive and centrist forces ended narrowly in favour of the establishment, producing a mixed result rather than a decisive ideological shift.

In Minnesota, Peggy Flanagan defeated Craig in the Democratic Senate primary, following another progressive victory in a key Senate contest. In Wisconsin, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowl narrowly prevailed in a major Democratic primary, while other races—including contests involving Ilhan Omar and gubernatorial candidates—underscored the strength of progressive politics in parts of the Midwest.
