Prince William ‘blown away’ by young black scholars in charity visit with The Amos Bursary

Daily Mail ·

Prince William met scholars and alumni of The Amos Bursary in Hoxton, east London, and said he was “blown away” by their stories. The visit highlighted how the charity supports young people of African and Caribbean heritage from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them pursue education and careers.

Founded in 2009 by Baroness Valerie Amos and her sister Coleen Amos, the bursary provides direct support to about 50 young people in London and the East Midlands each year, and online advice and mentoring to another 300. Alumni included Joseph Simeon, a 29-year-old New York investment banker who credited the charity’s financial help and mentoring with transforming his life; he now mentors others and attended despite getting married the next day.
