Wandsworth prison nurse admits misconduct over relationship with convicted killer

Daily Mail ·

Stephanie Adair, a 29-year-old prison nurse at HMP Wandsworth, has pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office for conducting an inappropriate personal relationship with Jahki Crosdale, a 28-year-old convicted killer and drug dealer. The relationship spanned from September 2023 to November 2024 and was maintained partly through illicit mobile phone contact. This case represents a significant security breach at a prison already struggling with serious institutional problems.

Crosdale was convicted of manslaughter at age 17 after stabbing trainee plumber Charlie Burns to death over a £150 cannabis debt, and has since been convicted of drug and firearms offences. He remains on recall until 2029. Both Adair and Crosdale have been granted unconditional bail and will be sentenced on 9 February 2027. HMP Wandsworth was condemned as "England's worst jail" in August 2024 due to overcrowding, self-harm, violence and deaths; the facility has also been associated with other staff misconduct, including an officer filmed with an inmate.
