‘Prognosis remains guarded’ – Serie A’s Trepy on ventilator

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

Serie A forward Yael Trepy remains in hospital under sedation and on a ventilator after losing consciousness in a swimming pool in Sardinia on Sunday. The 20-year-old Cagliari player was airlifted to hospital following the incident, which is thought to have occurred after he got into difficulty in an area of the pool where he could not touch the bottom. His condition is being closely monitored, with the club and medical staff issuing cautious updates on his recovery.

Cagliari released a statement on Tuesday from the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari confirming Trepy is "fever free" and that his respiratory function has improved since admission, though doctors said his "prognosis remains guarded". Should his condition continue to improve, medics plan a gradual reduction in sedation. Trepy, who joined Cagliari's academy in 2022 after starting his youth career at Paris side US Créteil-Lusitanos, played 54 minutes in the club's 1-0 Coppa Italia win over Arezzo on Friday and scored once in eight Serie A appearances last season.
