‘Project Hail Mary’ Star’s New War Thriller Officially Proves Why It Has a Perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score
A new trailer has been released for Fatherland, a Cold War-era drama starring Sandra Hüller, who plays the daughter of German Nobel laureate Thomas Mann as the pair take a road trip through a devastated post-war Germany. The film, which premiered at Cannes and holds a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, adds to a strong run for Hüller following her acclaimed 2023 work and upcoming roles alongside Ryan Gosling and Tom Cruise, positioning it as one of her most critically praised performances yet.
The story follows Thomas Mann (played by Hanns Zischler) and his daughter Erika as they travel by black Buick cruiser from US-controlled Frankfurt to Soviet-controlled Weimar, confronting a country scarred by the Second World War and fascism. Erika, herself a writer, actress and rally driver, has a strained relationship with her father, and the journey exposes tensions within their family as Thomas prepares to accept a prestigious honour following his long exile in the United States. Fatherland, released by Mubi, is set to open in select cinemas this October.
