Lindsay Lou’s new album, Bluegrass Women, celebrates women songwriters whose work became bluegrass standards but was often credited primarily through male performers. Released on 14 August, the project brings together leading contemporary women in bluegrass to honour these writers and challenge a historical imbalance in recognition.

Lou co-produced the album with Shani Gandhi and recruited artists including Molly Tuttle, Sierra Hull, Aoife O’Donovan, Alison Brown and Sarah Jarosz, alongside a four-part documentary. The record includes songs written by Dorothy Skaggs, Rosa Lee Watson, Jimmie Stanley and Joyce Morris; Lou said the project, developed over a decade, felt especially timely amid a political and social climate she sees as diminishing women’s visibility.
