PSA: Final Fantasy XIV Getting Switch 2 Update To Address Prolonged Loading
Final Fantasy XIV Online's newly released Switch 2 version has a bug causing prolonged loading screens, but Square Enix says a fix is already being tested. The issue affects an MMO launch that players have been eager to try on Nintendo's new console, and while not uncommon for new ports, it highlights early teething problems with this version of the long-running game.
According to an official notice on the game's website dated 4 August, the delay occurs when entering an instanced duty surrounded by many characters, with loading lasting until the player leaves that instance. It is most noticeable during battle phase transitions, map teleports, revivals after being knocked out, and when using the Return function or shortcuts. Square Enix says the cause is extended data reloading and cache-clearing processes, which have now been optimised, and an updated version is in testing and due for release "as soon as possible" alongside fixes for "several other issues".
