Raducanu to miss US Open to continue recovery
Emma Raducanu will miss the US Open as she continues to recover from a stress fracture in her right lower leg, an injury that also forced her to withdraw from Wimbledon. The decision follows fresh consultations with her medical team and means the 2021 champion will not defend her return to Flushing Meadows this year, a tournament she had only recently begun preparing for after coming out of a protective boot.
The past 12 months have been disrupted for the 23-year-old, who dealt with a foot injury hampering pre-season training and then a two-and-a-half-month absence due to a post-viral illness that began in early February. She returned late in the clay-court season after rehiring coach Andrew Richardson, and enjoyed a career-best run to the final at Queen's Club in June, but has not played since and now faces an extended lay-off ahead of the US Open, which starts on 23 August.

Emma Raducanu is a British tennis player who won the US Open in 2021, aged 18. The tournament is one of tennis’s four major championships and is held each year in New York.
Raducanu’s career has been affected by injuries and illness, which have interrupted her training and kept her out of competition. Andrew Richardson is her coach; players also work with medical teams to assess injuries and plan their return to the court.
The US Open result can shape a player’s world ranking and season, and Raducanu’s absence means she will not compete at the event she won in 2021. Her recovery will affect when she can resume playing regularly.
