Raspy Trump jokes he’ll send a lookalike robot on campaign trail as his voice strains under punishing midterm blitz
Donald Trump joked that he might send a robot made to look like him to campaign events, saying his voice might not hold out through his demanding schedule. The comment came after several late nights and long flights as he campaigns for Republican candidates ahead of the November midterms.
In just over a week, Trump has held events in eight states, including Texas, New York, Tennessee, Ohio, Alaska, Arizona, Maryland and Montana. One recent trip included an evening rally in Alaska, followed by events in Arizona and Montana before he returned to Washington early Thursday; he also criticised Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico’s recovery from flu and called Republican Ken Paxton controversial.

Donald Trump is a former US president and the Republican candidate in the 2024 election. The US midterm elections take place halfway through a president’s four-year term, when voters choose members of Congress and many state and local officials.
Trump has been campaigning for Republican candidates, including in contests for the Senate, one of the two chambers of Congress. The party that controls the Senate can shape which laws are passed and whether senior government appointments are approved, so the results can affect the balance of power in Washington.
