Reddit is restricting access to Old Reddit, its 21-year-old classic desktop version, to users who have actively used it within the last six months. The company is implementing this change as part of its ongoing efforts to combat AI scraping, which it has identified as a significant problem on the platform. New accounts will no longer be able to access Old Reddit, and existing users who have not used the older interface for six months will be barred from it, though moderators will remain exempt from these restrictions.

The company will implement these restrictions "in the next few months" following a previous update that limited Old Reddit to logged-in users only. Reddit reports that this earlier restriction has already reduced automated abuse on the platform. Additionally, Reddit is discontinuing RSS feed support effective 13 November, citing it as "a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse." Chief Executive Steve Huffman has indicated a preference to recreate Old Reddit's user interface on a modern technical foundation rather than abandon it entirely, though the company has not committed to preserving the version long-term.
