Tinder is launching a group hangouts feature that allows users to meet in groups rather than on traditional one-on-one dates. Building on the success of its double date feature, the app is responding to demand from younger users who prefer lower-pressure social experiences when meeting new people. The initiative acknowledges that many singles find conventional first dates intimidating and seek alternative ways to connect.

The new feature has been successful in initial testing, with 40 percent of invites being accepted during trials in Australia. According to Tinder data, 90 percent of users who tried double dates were under 30, and those users exchanged 35 percent more messages than average, suggesting younger demographics are driving demand for group dating options. To use the feature, members create a group, select an activity, and invite friends; once three or more people join, the group's profile becomes visible to other groups, who can then match and organise meetups through a group chat. The feature is launching initially in the United States and select markets globally.
