Senate Majority Leader John Thune said he would embrace such a move after Fetterman, a Pennsylvania Democrat known for his independent streak, indicated he might reconsider his party affiliation over its increasingly critical stance on Israel.

Fetterman made his comments on Fox News's "Sunday Morning Futures", saying he would "re-evaluate" his ties to the Democrats if the party's approach to Israel continued to shift in an anti-Israel direction. Thune confirmed Republicans would be receptive, saying "yes, we would welcome him," while noting he had not spoken with Fetterman recently but had done so in the past, as had other senators.
