Review: Silver Pines (PS5) – Lynchian Metroidvania Is a Cut Above
Silver Pines is a stylish survival-horror Metroidvania in which a private investigator searches a strange, storm-cleared town for missing musician Eddie Velvet. Its mix of eerie exploration, carefully designed routes and a central mystery gives the game a distinctive pull for fans of atmospheric horror.
The 2.5D map uses locked doors and obstacles to guide players towards places they can revisit with newly found tools, while puzzles reward close observation and note-taking with an in-game camera. Exploration gradually reveals more about Eddie, and the review praises how the mystery and map progression reinforce each other. Combat is tense and resource-limited: ammunition is scarce, aiming is deliberately awkward, and reloading uses quick-time events.
In short
- A private investigator searches for a missing musician in a creepy town.
- Map exploration and the central mystery work hand in hand.
- Scarce supplies and awkward aiming make combat tense.
