The Republican National Committee (RNC) and New Jersey state GOP leaders have filed a lawsuit against New Jersey's chief election official and county authorities in five counties, alleging they have withheld federally mandated voter roll maintenance records. The lawsuit seeks to force the release of documents related to noncitizens found on the state's voter registries, following the RNC's discovery in June of hundreds of ineligible voters, including migrants and residents who claimed to lack U.S. citizenship yet were registered to vote.

According to state Democratic Governor Mikie Sherrill's acknowledgement, over 6,600 noncitizens had been added to voter rolls. The RNC claims that whilst some documents were produced, New Jersey officials have continued to withhold key records required to be publicly available under federal law. This legal action forms part of a broader RNC election integrity campaign, which has sent similar voter roll maintenance records requests to 48 states, and has drawn interest from congressional investigators examining comparable voter registration failures.
