Lacuna Coil singer Andrea Ferro says today’s short attention spans make it harder for bands to attract and retain listeners, compared with when the Italian group emerged in the 1990s. He argues that rock and metal remain notable for preserving artistic quality despite wider music-industry pressures to prioritise quick, attention-grabbing releases.
Speaking to Rock Hard Greece, Ferro said the ways audiences discover bands and buy music have changed significantly. He believes many other genres sacrifice quality for rapid success, while metal and rock artists generally maintain higher standards in their work.
