Ryan Murphy has previewed the 13th, all-star season of "American Horror Story," describing it as a tribute to the anthology series that will unite legacy cast members reprising their most iconic roles. In a Hollywood Reporter interview, Murphy said returning stars including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters agreed to come back almost instantly, and compared the format to "the Avengers," with the ensemble uniting to defeat a common evil.

The 13-episode season premieres 24 September on FX and Hulu, with Lange playing four characters, Paulson six and Peters five, alongside Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Frances Conroy, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman. Murphy also discussed Ariana Grande's departure from the season, confirmed he is already developing season 14 alongside his Monster franchise instalment "The Lizzie Borden Story," and revealed he is seriously weighing a return to "Glee," while stressing a broader ambition to bring more of his productions back to Los Angeles.
