Ryan Murphy's FX crime thriller series The Shards has become one of the most popular shows on Hulu and Disney+ since its recent premiere. To capitalise on its success, the network is releasing an official 16-song soundtrack featuring original music composed for the series, which will become available on streaming platforms on 16 October. This soundtrack release complements the show's acclaimed authenticity in recreating the 1980s Los Angeles setting and culture.

The soundtrack combines period-appropriate hits from artists such as The Buggles, Fleetwood Mac, and Blondie with original compositions by Morgan Kibby and David Klotz, plus contributions from contemporary artists including Troye Sivan, Hayes Warner and Allie X. The series itself, which consists of nine episodes and is based on Bret Easton Ellis' semiautobiographical novel, follows a group of high school friends in 1981 as they navigate adolescence whilst a mysterious new student named Robert becomes implicated in local crimes. The show's ensemble cast includes Igby Rigney, Kaia Gerber, Evan Rachel Wood and Wes Bentley.
